Lauren S. Taney, M.D.

Dr. Lauren Taney joined Washington Eye Physicians and Surgeons in 2014 after completing a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Disease at the New England Eye Center/Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Taney specializes in the diagnosis and management of medical retinal conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, central serous chorioretinopathy, inherited retinal disease, and retinal tears. She also practices comprehensive ophthalmology and performs cataract surgery.

Dr. Taney received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University and her medical degree from the University of Florida. She completed her residency training in ophthalmology at Georgetown University Hospital and the Washington Hospital Center.

Dr. Taney’s research interests center on age-related macular degeneration, cystoid macular edema, vitreomacular traction, and retinal imaging techniques. Dr. Taney’s research has been presented at multiple international and national meetings, including the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Retina Society, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the New England Ophthalmological Society. She has published several peer-reviewed articles, in journals such as JAMA Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery Lasers and Imaging Retina. She has also written two textbook chapters on retinal disease. During her fellowship in Boston, she served as a sub-investigator on multiple clinical trials.

She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), and the Maryland Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.

In her free time, Dr. Taney enjoys skiing, art, cooking, and traveling. She is fluent in Spanish.
