The eye doctors at Washington Eye Physicians & Surgeons were among the first in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia region to implant the latest breakthrough in vision correction, the full vision Crystalens® , Restor®, Tecnis® and Tecnis Symfony® presbyopic lens technologies. These can restore clear vision for reading, computer and distance with significant reduction of spectacle dependence.
The intraocular Lenses (IOL’s) is a plastic lens that is surgically implanted to permanently replace the old, opaque natural lens of the eye. There are several advanced technology intraocular lenses(IOL’s) available at our Washington metropolitan area offices Crystalens, Restor, Tecnis and Symfony. All FDA approved vision correction implants that permit boomers and seniors to experience natural seamless distance, intermediate and near vision. These advanced technology implant have the same safety as the decades old traditional lens implants but can provide many of our patients greater freedom from glasses, not just distance glasses but readers too.
Only our experienced eye surgeons can determine if a patient is a good candidate for the premium lens technology. The best candidates are those with cataracts that have otherwise healthy eyes. These lenses can correct most degrees of nearsightedness and farsightedness. If astigmatism is present it can be corrected at the same time of lens implantation with femtosecond relaxing incisions (Lensx) or after lens implantation by performing LASIK at later date. Astigmatism can also be corrected with the Toric premium lens to achieve independence from glasses at distance .
A questionnaire that you will fill out prior to your visit will allow your surgeon to make the appropriate recommendation that fit your visual needs and lifestyle. It is our goal to give you the best advise that will optimize your outcome and meet your expectations.
Patients with glaucoma, inflammation inside the eye, diabetic retinopathy, macular disease or other active eye disease including structural abnormalities may not be candidates for advanced technology lens implant procedure.
Patients with prior Laser vision correction can be candidates for advanced technology lenses, these patients require a case by case determination of individual concerns and findings. Implant calculations are less accurate in post laser vision correction patients. Further LASIK or PRK may be necessary after the Crystalens, Restor, Tecnis and Symfony.
