Washington Eye Physicians & Surgeons is pleased to welcome Dr. Lisa M. Tom to our practice.

Dr. Lisa Tom Chevy Chase Ophthalmologist

Dr. Tom brings a wealth of expertise to Washington Eye.  A comprehensive and glaucoma ophthalmologist, she specializes in cataract surgery, premium intraocular lenses (IOLs), minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), incisional glaucoma surgery, and ophthalmic lasers.

Dr. Tom’s extensive training includes a residency at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School, where she honed her skills in the diagnosis and management of general eye conditions. She furthered her specialization with a glaucoma fellowship at the renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, where she gained expertise in complex glaucoma surgeries such as trabeculectomy and tube shunts.

She received her Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude from Princeton University and her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Tom is a member of the American Glaucoma Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, with her research contributions published in esteemed peer-reviewed journals, including Ophthalmology Glaucoma.

Dr. Tom’s dedication to advancing eye care extends to international and national conferences, including World Ophthalmology Congress and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, where she has presented her research findings. Notably, she has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Castle Connolly Top Doctor for three consecutive years.

Dr. Tom is fluent in Spanish. With a commitment to making a difference globally, she has volunteered her expertise in manual small incision cataract surgery for patients in El Salvador and India.

Raised in Columbia, Maryland, Dr. Tom enjoys spending time with family and friends. Her hobbies include hiking, travel, and cooking.
